MacPaw and Liquid AI partner to bring on-device inference to SetApp

Ukrainian developer MacPaw is teaming up with Liquid AI to integrate locally hosted models into its product ecosystem, starting with its Eney assistant. By shifting processing from the cloud to the device, the company aims to offer developers a suite of tools for private, secure, and offline-capable AI applications.

The collaboration centers on Elix, a new on-device inference and memory system designed to optimize performance directly on user hardware. Liquid AI CEO Ramin Hasani emphasizes that this architecture prioritizes hardware-tailored efficiency, distinguishing it from existing solutions by allowing models to adapt and improve based on specific user input over time.

For MacPaw, the move serves a dual purpose: enhancing its own internal tools and expanding the capabilities of its subscription-based storefront, SetApp. With over 150,000 paying users, the platform is currently testing a credit-based pricing model that scales costs according to task complexity. CEO Oleksandr Kosovan plans to eventually open this technology stack to third-party developers, positioning SetApp as a centralized hub for both local on-device inference and cloud-based models from providers like Google.
