GrapheneOS targets Motorola foldables for 2027 security expansion

The GrapheneOS Foundation confirmed through a Mastodon thread that its integration strategy starts with high-end slab flagships before transitioning to the Razr Fold and Razr Ultra. If successful, the Razr Ultra would become the first flip-style foldable to officially run the privacy-centric OS. While current Motorola Signature handsets are nearing the project's security benchmarks, they currently lack the necessary hardware memory tagging and secure element integration to receive formal support.

Expansion into more affordable Motorola models remains a secondary goal, contingent on significant shifts in hardware lifecycle management. GrapheneOS requires manufacturers to commit to seven years of software updates, a stark contrast to the current support windows for budget devices like the $499.99 Moto G Stylus, which offers only two major OS upgrades. The collaboration, first initiated in March, signals a push to bridge the gap between enterprise-grade security and consumer foldable hardware.
