TP-Link Previews Wi-Fi 8 Hardware Ahead of Industry Standards

The Archer 8 Ultra deploys 18 internal antennas to reach wireless speeds of 19Gbps, complemented by a 10Gbps wired connection. Its mesh counterpart, the Deco 8 Ultra, pushes wireless capacity to 22Gbps, with a three-pack configuration designed to blanket 9,800 square feet while maintaining stability for over 200 devices. TP-Link intends to open preorders for the Archer 8 Ultra in select regions on September 30th, with the mesh units slated for a Q1 2027 release.

This aggressive rollout arrives despite the Wi-Fi 7 standard only being finalized in January 2024 and the official Wi-Fi 8 certification not expected until May 2028. By launching hardware well before the finalized spec, TP-Link is navigating a complex regulatory landscape. The company explicitly noted its reliance on Broadcom, Qualcomm, and MediaTek chipsets paired with US-led engineering to address concerns regarding the recent ban on foreign-made routers. Additional hardware, including range extenders and the Roam 8 travel router, is scheduled to hit the market in Q2 2027.
