iRobot Unveils the Roomba Duo Concept

The Roomba Duo functions as an autonomous mobile dock, housing clean and dirty water tanks alongside a dust collection system. Its primary unit utilizes lidar and camera-based navigation to map domestic environments and clear debris. According to Adam Pope, the base unit exerts 46 newtons of downward pressure for steam-mopping and features the most powerful vacuum suction the company has developed to date. During demonstrations, the machine successfully transitioned from vacuuming solid waste to washing carpeted surfaces.

Mounted atop the main unit is the Roomba Plus 757, a smaller vacuum that deploys via a mechanical arm to reach tight corners or spaces under furniture. CEO Hao Li positioned the device as a consolidation of multiple household cleaning tools, though the prototype currently lacks a firm price or commercial release date. While the mechanical deployment during the Berlin demonstration appeared fluid, the scale of the hardware and the presence of Picea engineers suggest significant development remains before the Duo could move from a concept to a consumer-ready appliance.
