Microsoft rushes emergency patch to mend September update failures

The latest troubleshooting efforts target specific disruptions across Windows 11 versions 26H1, 25H2, and 24H2, where users reported broken folder shares on Hyper-V-based Linux virtual machines and intermittent failures within Remote Desktop Services. Beyond these enterprise-facing bottlenecks, the update resolves audio connectivity glitches affecting various USB devices. The fix extends to Windows Server 2025 and 2022, as well as several legacy iterations including Windows Server 2012 and the LTSC versions of Windows 10.

While unscheduled emergency patches were once a rarity for the software giant, the frequency of these recovery operations has spiked throughout the current year. The company previously scrambled to release four emergency updates in January following a flawed Windows 11 patch, followed by two separate interventions in March to resolve installation errors and account sign-in locks. An additional out-of-band update arrived in July to mitigate performance degradation and battery drain caused by an Intel driver conflict.
