Canon Adds In-Body Stabilization to the EOS R8 Mark II

The R8 Mark II carries a weight of 1.2 pounds, a slight increase from its predecessor necessitated by the new stabilization hardware. Despite the added bulk, it remains lighter than the $2,799 EOS R6 Mark III. Canon has priced the body-only version at $1,899, with a kit option including a 24-50mm stabilized lens retailing for $2,099.

Internally, the camera retains the 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor found in the R6 Mark II, distinguishing it from the higher-resolution 32.5-megapixel sensor used in the R6 Mark III. The device continues to rely exclusively on an electronic shutter, capable of burst speeds up to 40fps. A notable software addition is the pre-continuous shooting mode, which buffers 20 frames before the shutter button is fully depressed. The new five-axis in-body stabilization provides up to 7.5 stops of shake correction, a capability that scales further when paired with compatible stabilized glass.
