Corient Expands Global Reach With Cayman Islands Acquisition

Miami-based wealth manager Corient has acquired FortCay Family Advisory, marking another expansion in its aggressive growth strategy. The deal brings a Cayman Islands-based multi-family office into the firm’s fold, adding $2.6 billion in assets under management and deepening Corient’s capabilities for clients navigating complex, cross-border financial structures.

Corient Expands Global Reach With Cayman Islands Acquisition

FortCay, established by founders Billy Harty and Matt Houghton, provides specialized estate planning and family office services to 14 ultra-high-net-worth families. Kurt MacAlpine, CEO of Corient, noted that the move is driven by the reality that much of the world's complex family wealth is anchored in the Cayman Islands. This acquisition follows a rapid series of deals for the firm, which has grown to manage approximately $572 billion across its global operations since its 2020 inception.

Corient has maintained a relentless pace of consolidation throughout 2024. Recent acquisitions include Summit Trail Advisors, which oversees $21 billion in client capital, and New York-based Seven Bridges Advisors. Earlier this year, the firm expanded into Europe by acquiring the Bedrock Group and continued its domestic footprint growth through deals with Palo Alto Wealth Advisors, Geller’s multi-family office business, and Bellevue-based Bristlecone Advisors. Originally formed as the U.S. wealth arm of CI Financial, Corient now operates under private ownership backed by Mubadala Capital, continuing to aggressively absorb boutique advisory firms to scale its international service model.
