Unlike competitors such as Tesla or Figure, which are developing integrated proprietary systems, Feather focuses on a flexible architecture. Co-founder Hoa Mai, who previously sold a humanoid startup to 1X, teamed up with former Tesla engineer Parsa Bakhtiari to build a platform that prioritizes immediate utility. The strategy mirrors the evolution of personal computing, where hardware becomes a canvas for software innovation.
Backed by a $7.6 million pre-seed round led by Gradient Ventures, the startup has already generated over $1 million in revenue. Its modular systems are currently deployed in Japanese restaurants and research laboratories, running AI models from providers like Generalist and Physical Intelligence. At a price point of $30,000, the robot is designed to compete with human labor costs while filling a void left by restricted access to foreign-made hardware in the U.S. market. As the ecosystem for physical AI expands, Feather aims to become the foundational layer for thousands of future application developers.
