The firmware release, version 10.12.12, enables users to connect to public or private audio broadcasts, a feature designed to transmit sound from sources like airport public address systems, lecture halls, or home televisions to multiple headsets simultaneously. While Auracast was unveiled in 2022, adoption among premium hardware makers has remained gradual. Bose now joins brands including Sony, Samsung, and Sennheiser in supporting the standard.
Beyond the headline features, the update refines the wired listening experience. Users gain improved audio balance for gaming and enhanced compatibility with web conferencing applications when connected via USB. Bose spokesperson Tim Williams confirmed that the QuietComfort Headphones (Gen 2) are slated to receive the same beta firmware update in the near future, signaling a broader push to integrate the technology across the company's premium lineup.
