The latest cohort reflects a broader evolution for Surge, which has moved beyond its initial focus on India and Southeast Asia to support global founders spanning from San Francisco to Sydney. While more than half of the companies are based in India, only five are strictly targeting the local market, with the remainder pursuing international customers. This batch encompasses diverse sectors, including AI-driven insurance, autonomous underground robotics, and satellite-based radio-frequency sensing.
Managing director Rajan Anandan noted that the decision to increase the funding cap from $3 million reflects the reality of modern deeptech, where founders require more runway to reach maturity. The 18 startups include notable ventures like Alma, a personal computing platform, and Reinforce Labs, which focuses on AI security and remediation. Peak XV continues to favor experienced operators, with roughly 60% of the cohort’s founders coming from established technology firms. Since its 2019 inception, the platform has backed over 180 companies that now generate a combined $1 billion in annual revenue.
