Oura indefinitely postpones $2.2 billion IPO

Smart ring manufacturer Oura has shelved its plans for a $2.2 billion initial public offering, citing broader instability in the financial markets. The company, which previously eyed a valuation of up to $15 billion, opted to pause the process rather than proceed under current economic conditions.

CEO Tom Hale characterized the move as a strategic choice, noting that the firm has the luxury to wait for a more favorable window. Despite the delay, the company maintains strong momentum, reporting 5.7 million paying members and projecting a 90% revenue increase for its 2026 fiscal year. Hardware remains the primary revenue driver, yet the company is successfully pivoting toward high-margin subscriptions, which now account for 20% of total sales with an 89% gross margin.

The postponement disrupts exit strategies for major stakeholders, specifically Forerunner Ventures, which intended to offload its entire 9.3% stake. Additionally, the company must now find alternative methods to address tax obligations related to employee share grants that were tied to the listing. With $372 million in cash reserves as of June, Oura remains well-capitalized to continue its operations without the immediate influx of public capital.
