Suspected ShinyHunters leader arrested in Amsterdam

Police identified the suspect as a man previously convicted of data theft and extortion in 2023. Following his release from prison, he reportedly found employment at the cybersecurity firm Neo Security. While ShinyHunters publicly denied any connection to the individual in communications with Reuters, the FBI maintains a different stance. Brett Leatherman, Assistant Director of the FBI’s Cyber Division, labeled the man an alleged leader of the group and issued a public ultimatum, urging remaining members to surrender before investigators close the net.

The case extends beyond digital intrusion, as Dutch authorities have also linked the suspect to attempted incitement of two murders. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that federal teams are actively leveraging evidence from this detention to pursue further leads. The investigation highlights the growing tension between law enforcement and the group responsible for significant security breaches at major entities including Ticketmaster and Rockstar Games.
