Crédit Agricole Enters Natural Capital Market with EcoTree Acquisition

Crédit Agricole has established a dedicated division, Crédit Agricole Capital Naturel, to spearhead investments in ecosystem restoration and natural resource preservation. The move signals a shift toward institutionalizing nature-based solutions, beginning with an aggressive expansion into forestry through the acquisition of a majority stake in EcoTree.

The new unit aims to bridge the gap between financial markets and environmental regeneration by supporting investors and industry stakeholders. Central to this strategy is the launch of the Amundi Arbora Nova fund, which targets a capitalization of €200 million to finance large-scale forest ecosystem restoration projects.

Timothée Jaulin, a veteran of the French Treasury and former head of business development at Amundi’s Responsible Investment Department, leads the division. His background in managing partnerships with supranational entities, including the European Investment Bank and the International Finance Corporation, provides the framework for the bank’s push into complex environmental asset classes.
