Singapore's Temasek Expands Footprint Into the Middle East

Singapore’s state-owned investment firm Temasek is planting its flag in the Gulf, announcing plans to open offices in Riyadh and Abu Dhabi by the first half of 2027. The move marks a strategic pivot for the S$518 billion fund, aiming to tap into the region's rapid economic transformation and long-term capital potential.

The expansion will serve as a launchpad for Temasek and its portfolio companies to deepen local ties and scout for new investment opportunities. By establishing a physical presence in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, the firm intends to streamline collaboration across the Middle East, while also keeping an eye on broader growth prospects in Central Asia and Africa. This push adds two more locations to the firm's global network, which currently spans 15 offices across 11 countries.

Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara, Temasek’s chief executive, cited the region's remarkable economic ambition and attractive fundamentals as primary drivers for the commitment. To oversee this regional strategy, Chia Song Hwee, who took on the role of chairman for the Middle East and Africa in September, will work alongside Ankit Khemka, the firm’s managing director for the region. The decision signals a robust vote of confidence in the Gulf, even as the broader region contends with ongoing geopolitical instability.
