Trump Defends Iran Annihilation Threats as Path to Global Peace

When pressed by Time magazine over his repeated threats to destroy Iran, President Donald Trump offered a stark justification for the ongoing conflict. He claimed that the total annihilation of the nation is the only viable method to secure lasting global peace, dismissing concerns regarding the civilian population.

Trump Defends Iran Annihilation Threats as Path to Global Peace

During the interview, journalists Eric Cortellessa and Sam Jacobs questioned how the president could reconcile his self-styled role as a peacemaker with rhetoric calling for the destruction of an entire civilization. Trump doubled down, stating that peace with Iran is impossible without its complete eradication. When asked to distinguish between the regime and its 90 million citizens, he pivoted to unsubstantiated claims that the Iranian government had killed 75,000 people during recent internal unrest.

This figure far exceeds death counts from independent monitors, such as the Human Rights Activists News Agency, which documented 7,007 confirmed fatalities. The war, which began in February 2026, was initially projected to last two months. Trump admitted the conflict has dragged into its seventh month because he deliberately chose to escalate military operations beyond initial objectives. He claimed Iran’s economy and military are effectively destroyed, citing 300% inflation—a figure significantly higher than the 90% recorded by official Iranian data.

With midterm elections approaching, the war has become a major electoral liability. Trump’s approval ratings have cratered amid rising gas prices and economic instability. Despite a Qatari-mediated ceasefire proposal on the table, the president remains noncommittal about future military plans, refusing to rule out intensified bombing campaigns after the November vote.
