Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery to Rebrand as Skydance

Twelve states challenged the $110 billion merger of two Hollywood titans, citing concerns over competition and labor, yet a judge cleared the path for the deal this week. Once the transaction concludes on October 6, the combined entity will officially operate under the banner of David Ellison’s Skydance.

The consolidation brings together a massive portfolio of intellectual property, including CBS, CNN, MTV, and HBO Max. Under the new corporate structure, the studio will control high-value franchises such as The Lord of the Rings, the DC Universe, and Yellowstone. The agreement follows a volatile period of negotiation that saw Netflix briefly weigh a bid for Warner Bros.’ assets before the Paramount deal ultimately secured dominance.

Despite the unified corporate identity, Ellison insists that the legacy brands will retain their individual prominence. He noted that the Skydance moniker serves to provide a cohesive parent structure without stripping the historical weight from the Paramount or Warner Bros. logos. The company intends to keep both studios in the spotlight while leveraging the combined reach of their respective streaming and television networks.
