Lucid Motors output hits two-year low amid strategic retrenchment

Lucid Motors manufactured 2,954 electric vehicles during the third quarter, marking a 54% decline from the previous year. This output represents the company's lowest quarterly production since early 2025, as management deliberately throttles manufacturing to align with sluggish consumer demand for its luxury vehicle lineup.

Lucid Motors output hits two-year low amid strategic retrenchment

The latest figures underscore a persistent imbalance between production and sales. For five of the last six quarters, Lucid has built more vehicles than it has successfully moved to customers. Deliveries for the third quarter stalled at 3,806 units, a figure that remains largely stagnant compared to the previous quarter. This underperformance stands in sharp contrast to the company’s 2021 public offering projections, which once estimated annual shipments reaching 90,000 vehicles by 2024.

CEO Silvio Napoli is currently overseeing a aggressive restructuring plan aimed at achieving $1.4 billion in cost savings. This pivot involves shedding 1,500 staff members, dismantling a second shift at the Arizona manufacturing facility, and delaying the launch of the more affordable Cosmos SUV. Napoli has acknowledged that past failures stemmed from inconsistent execution, premature product launches, and a lack of focus on service infrastructure. While the Cosmos is intended to capture a broader market segment with a sub-$50,000 price point, the company is prioritizing quality control over speed to avoid repeating historical operational missteps.
