Jewish American Activists Mount Unprecedented Protest Over Gaza War

From Grand Central Station to congressional offices, Jewish peace activists are orchestrating what organizers describe as the largest mass mobilization for Palestinian rights in United States history. The wave of demonstrations reflects a growing, vocal fracture within the American Jewish community over the military campaign in Gaza.

Jewish American Activists Mount Unprecedented Protest Over Gaza War

Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) reports that the movement has escalated since October 7, when Israeli forces launched their offensive following Hamas-led attacks that killed 1,400 people. Activists are demanding an immediate cease-fire, citing the deaths of over 8,000 Palestinians in Gaza, including more than 3,000 children. Media coordinator Liv Kunins-Berkowitz stated that participants are no longer willing to remain silent, asserting that the military action is being carried out in their name.

Demonstrations have spanned major cities including Chicago, Los Angeles, and Denver. In New York, police arrested more than 400 people during a Friday sit-in at Grand Central Station. Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill, 18 Democratic lawmakers led by Rep. Cori Bush have introduced a resolution urging the Biden administration to push for de-escalation. This legislative effort has drawn sharp pushback, with Rep. Rashida Tlaib facing a censure motion from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who accused the lawmaker of antisemitism—a move critics have labeled as deeply ironic given Greene's own history of inflammatory rhetoric.
