Rathbones and Capital Group Expand Regulatory Footprints

Two major financial players have secured critical operating licences, signaling a shift in their global strategy. Rathbones has obtained a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive permit from the Central Bank of Ireland to serve the European Union, while US-based Capital Group has gained regulatory approval to operate in Abu Dhabi.

Rathbones and Capital Group Expand Regulatory Footprints

Rathbones Ireland, the group’s Dublin-based entity, intends to leverage its new status to capture shifting wealth flows. Managing director Dolores Geaney, who joined in 2026 to spearhead this European expansion, noted that the firm is responding to significant international mobility among high-growth entrepreneurs. Data from the firm indicates that nearly 6,000 such individuals departed the UK between 2024 and 2026, creating a clear demand for cross-border financial services.

Meanwhile, Capital Group is deepening its Middle East presence. The investment manager, which oversees $3.6 trillion in assets, received Financial Services Permission from the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Abu Dhabi Global Market. This allows the firm to conduct trading and investment management from its new regional hub. Benno Klingenberg-Timm, who heads the Abu Dhabi office, stated that the move is designed to bring the firm closer to clients and regional investment opportunities. The company has already relocated staff from North America, Europe, and Asia to staff the new operation.
