Leaked LG Accessories Hint at Apple Home NFC Integration

A series of leaks from the user “pdfu” suggests Apple is preparing to deepen its smart home ecosystem with NFC-powered features. By bringing an iPhone near upcoming LG accessories, users may soon trigger seamless controls via the Dynamic Island, bypassing traditional app navigation for device management and initial setup.

The proposed “Proximity Control” feature utilizes the Matter protocol to bridge hardware and software, allowing an iPhone to detect nearby appliances instantly. According to the leaked documentation, tapping a phone against an accessory will summon an “Open Controls” interface directly within the Dynamic Island. This functionality extends to complex devices like security cameras and doorbells, which appear to support the same streamlined interaction model.

Evidence for these features has been circulating within internal software builds since iOS 27.0, with corroborating code discovered by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris in the iOS 27.2 beta. These findings follow reports of a “tap to setup without power” mechanism, which allows for pairing devices before they are even plugged into a power source. With Apple’s “Welcome home” event scheduled for October 13th, industry observers expect formal announcements regarding this expanded smart home hardware suite, potentially including a new display-equipped hub and updated iterations of the HomePod Mini and Apple TV.
