Google revamps Play Store interface for in-car displays

Drivers using vehicles with Google built-in will soon encounter a redesigned Play Store interface capable of adapting its layout to various screen sizes and orientations. Starting in the coming weeks, the update introduces a streamlined navigation menu and faster download capabilities to simplify app discovery directly from the dashboard.

The interface overhaul shifts the primary navigation menu to the left side of the screen or the top for vertical displays, organizing options into Apps, Games, Search, and More. Featured content now appears directly on the homepage, enabling users to initiate downloads with a single tap. This shift follows Google’s broader strategy of deepening software integration in vehicles like the Polestar 2 and the 2023 Honda Accord Touring.

Alongside the interface changes, the app ecosystem is expanding to include Starz, Firefox, Ludo King, and JioHotstar for use while parked. YouTube Premium subscribers gain the ability to watch videos on the dashboard when stationary, with the option to continue audio playback while the vehicle is in motion. These updates arrive shortly after Google began replacing the legacy Assistant with Gemini AI across models from manufacturers including Ford, GM, Nissan, and Volvo.
