Canaccord Genuity Weighs £1 Billion Sale of UK Wealth Unit

A consortium led by Centerbridge Partners is currently in advanced discussions to acquire the UK wealth management division of Canada’s Canaccord Genuity. This potential deal, which also includes the Abu Dhabi-based sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Investment Co., could value the unit at approximately £1 billion, or $1.3 billion.

The negotiations follow the expiration of exclusive talks between Canaccord and other major buyout firms, specifically Warburg Pincus and Clayton Dubilier & Rice. While the parties are moving toward an agreement that could be formalized in the coming weeks, insiders caution that the discussions remain subject to change or cancellation. Canaccord Genuity did not respond to requests for comment, and representatives for the involved private equity firms and Mubadala have declined to speak on the matter.

Investors reacted positively to the news, pushing Canaccord’s shares up as much as 6.5% to C$14.18 in Toronto. The firm has seen a 22% increase in its share price since the beginning of 2026. This potential transaction aligns with a broader trend of international entities consolidating their influence within the British financial sector, following similar acquisitions by firms like Corient, Creative Planning, and Nuveen.
