Matiks Secures $10M to Scale Competitive Math and Logic Gaming

India-based gaming startup Matiks has secured $10 million in pre-Series A funding led by General Catalyst, signaling investor confidence in its pivot toward skill-based brain games. The platform, which pits users against one another in math and puzzle duels, has seen its daily active user count surge to 300,000 this year.

Founded by college friends Sudhanshu Bhatia, Mohan Kumar, and Sushant Timmapur, the company aims to offer an alternative to passive, algorithm-driven content. Bhatia, whose background includes competitive mental math, designed the app to treat cognitive challenges with the same intensity as physical sports. The platform currently spans categories including memory, logic, and mathematics, allowing users to compete against both bots and live opponents.

Following this latest cash injection, the startup’s total funding has reached $13.5 million. The round included support from entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala and existing backers such as Info Edge Ventures, Tanglin Venture Partners, and Untitled Ventures. While the user base remains concentrated in India, the company is preparing for international expansion into Japan and South Korea, where it plans to implement localized content.

Beyond its core dueling features, Matiks is experimenting with Jelo, a platform enabling users to create and share their own games. With 41 full-time employees, the team is now moving toward a monetization model that includes subscriptions and in-app purchases, shifting focus from pure user acquisition to sustainable engagement. General Catalyst partner Rahul Humayan cited the startup's rapid pace of iteration and unique community dynamics as the primary drivers behind the firm’s investment.
