Apple’s iPhone Duo plagued by screen failures shortly after launch

A sharp crunching sound followed by a spiderweb of fractures is the last thing customers expected from a $2,000 device. Just days into the release of the iPhone Duo, Apple’s flagship foldable, early adopters are reporting catastrophic display failures that threaten to derail the company’s high-stakes entry into the foldable market.

The complaints emerged almost immediately after the device reached consumers. Reports from Bloomberg and 404 Media detail screens cracking after minimal use, alongside persistent, deep creases marring the center of the folding display. Beyond physical fractures, some users describe total display malfunctions that render the premium hardware unusable within hours of unboxing.

Apple has acknowledged the defects, telling Bloomberg that a small number of units are affected by an issue impacting the inner screen. While the company remains under pressure to address these hardware failures, the situation mirrors historical struggles faced by other manufacturers attempting to master the notoriously fragile foldable form factor. Despite Apple’s claims at the Surprise and Shine event that they had engineered a solution to these technical hurdles, the current wave of hardware failures suggests the company has yet to overcome the fundamental durability issues plaguing the category.
