Xreal Launches Aura Smart Glasses Powered by Android XR

At the Android Developer Summit, Xreal unveiled its Aura smart glasses, a tethered wearable built on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite platform. By utilizing Google’s Android XR, the company aims to challenge incumbents in the augmented reality space with a device designed for both immersive entertainment and mobile productivity.

The Aura glasses rely on an external processing unit rather than onboard computing, allowing for a lighter form factor that sits between sleek frames and bulky headsets. Each lens features a Sony Micro-OLED display delivering 1200p resolution at a 120Hz refresh rate with a 95-degree field of view. While the hardware weighs 95 grams, it incorporates audio technology from Bose and integrates Gemini as a contextual assistant.

Functionality extends to a wide range of Google Play applications, including dedicated XR experiences from partners like the NBA and the San Francisco Ballet. Beyond standalone apps, users can connect PCs or gaming consoles via USB-C to project virtual multi-monitor setups. Xreal has opened orders in the United States, Canada, Japan, and South Korea, with the base 12GB/256GB model priced at $1,099 through December before rising to $1,279. Shipping for the initial units is scheduled to begin by mid-November.
