Binance Resumes Withdrawals Following Record $6.3 Billion Crypto Heist

After a devastating security breach that saw $6.3 billion siphoned from its coffers, Binance has begun the phased restoration of withdrawal services. The exchange, which has moved to cover the losses with its own reserves, faces mounting scrutiny over the vulnerability of digital asset infrastructure to state-linked cyberattacks.

Binance Resumes Withdrawals Following Record $6.3 Billion Crypto Heist

The platform reopened bitcoin withdrawals Sunday afternoon, more than two days after halting operations to conduct security assessments. Binance currently reports that it has secured roughly 90 per cent of the stolen funds, vowing to absorb the entire financial impact rather than passing losses to users. The restoration process will prioritize 15 major tokens, including Ether, Tether, and USDC, based on historical user demand data.

Investigators have pointed toward North Korea as the source of the attack, which analysts describe as a watershed moment for the digital asset sector. Experts suggest the breach highlights a shift in criminal tactics: rather than merely stealing data, attackers are now exploiting trust within financial systems. Phoebe Hodgson of GlobalData noted that as institutions become more interconnected, the margin between a security lapse and catastrophic financial loss has narrowed significantly. David Bowman, a partner at DMH Stallard, underscored that the heist originated from a single compromised laptop, proving that human factors remain the most critical weakness in otherwise robust cryptographic systems.
