In an unsigned announcement, Salon reflected on its history and the journalism, ideas, voices and community built around the publication. “Salon helped demonstrate what digital journalism could be and could become,” the post said, adding that it hoped the outlet’s legacy would endure.
Salon general manager Amanda Wolfe directed The Verge to the announcement when asked for comment. Chief content officer Erin Keane said on Bluesky that the editorial archive would “stay live for now.”
Salon’s closure comes as digital publishers contend with shifts in online traffic, including what has been called “Google Zero” and the effects of AI tools. The company did not cite either as a reason for its decision.
Find.co, Salon’s current owner, acquired the publication in 2023. Find.co describes itself as a “Performance Marketing Ecosystem transforming crypto marketing with performance and precision.”
