US memo reportedly links Megaspeed executive to Nvidia spying claim

A US intelligence-based memo reportedly alleged that China’s Ministry of State Security recruited Alice Huang, an executive at Singapore-based Megaspeed, to spy on Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang. The claims have been reported by The New York Times and the Financial Times; the allegations have not been independently established in the reports cited.

The New York Times first reported on the memo, which it said had circulated earlier this year. The newspaper had previously reported that Jensen Huang was a target of Chinese intelligence. The Financial Times later said the memo also alleged that Jensen Huang had a romantic relationship with Alice Huang.

An Nvidia spokesperson told The New York Times that Jensen Huang’s interactions with Alice Huang were “not unusual” and that the company does not share classified information with customers.

In a separate report, The New York Times examined New Matrix, a Chinese company authorized by the US Commerce Department to buy advanced Nvidia chips. Reporters visiting the address listed as the company’s office found “a hollow gray shell,” the newspaper reported, raising concerns that New Matrix could be a front for a blacklisted private equity firm.

The Nvidia spokesperson said the company sells “the first, best and most of our technology in America.”
