The proposed camera-equipped AirPods represent a significant leap in wearable intelligence. By mounting cameras on the stems, the hardware aims to provide Siri with real-time visual data about a user's surroundings. These devices, currently slated for a late 2027 arrival, are being tested in conjunction with iOS 28. This move appears to serve as a bridge toward Apple’s eventual entry into the smart glasses market, allowing the company to refine its spatial awareness software before moving to more complex optical devices.
Beyond audio, the company is diversifying its mobile lineup. Following the anticipated debut of its first foldable phone this fall, Apple is already planning a second-generation model to address the common pitfalls of current foldables, such as poor app optimization and battery constraints. Simultaneously, the hardware pipeline includes the "20th anniversary" iPhone, internally identified as V73 and V74. These devices will likely feature an edge-to-edge display with curved glass. While the standard iPhone 18 is expected to utilize A20 chips, the 2027 refresh aims to transition to advanced 2nm A21 silicon, with further manufacturing shifts to 1.4nm nodes currently in discussion.
