Mastodon Prepares Collections to Curate User Feeds

Users on participating servers can define these lists with specific topics and descriptions. To maintain privacy, Mastodon includes a toggle to mark content as sensitive, which obscures the list details behind a warning. If you are added to a Collection, the platform will send a notification, and you retain the right to opt out or report lists that violate community standards.

Imani Joy, Mastodon’s head of design, confirmed that the initial rollout will omit a "Follow All" button. This decision stems from user feedback regarding similar tools on other platforms, where mass-following often results in cluttered, irrelevant feeds. For now, the focus remains on building a library of user-created lists. Eventually, Mastodon plans to integrate these Collections into the server onboarding process, allowing administrators to suggest curated groups to newcomers instead of relying on the existing recommended accounts feature.
