These models hit the market at $849 and $949 respectively, arriving as the company attempts to address criticism over recent, aggressive price hikes.

The shift arrives after Microsoft previously raised the base costs for these devices to $1,049 and $1,199 in April 2026. While the new versions offer a lower barrier to entry, they retain the original 8-core Snapdragon X Plus processor and 256GB of storage found in their more powerful counterparts.

Crucially, the reduction in memory renders these machines ineligible for Copilot Plus, the company’s signature AI suite which demands a 16GB RAM threshold to function. Despite the lower price tags, these laptops remain significantly costlier than the $599 MacBook Neo, a competitor that has gained market traction by combining high-speed performance with a more aggressive retail price.
