Fairphone Expands Direct Sales to the US Market

Dutch manufacturer Fairphone is bringing its latest sustainable smartphone, the Fairphone 6+, to the United States for the first time without third-party modifications. Starting at $649, the device aims to challenge the industry’s cycle of planned obsolescence by offering a modular design that prioritizes long-term repairability over raw flagship power.

The Fairphone 6+ is positioned as a midrange Android device, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor paired with 12GB of RAM. Beyond its internal specs, the device features a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 4,415 mAh battery supporting 30W fast-charging. Photography duties are handled by a 50-megapixel main sensor and a 13-megapixel ultrawide lens, complemented by a 32-megapixel front-facing camera.

What distinguishes this handset from standard market offerings is its modular architecture. Owners can replace 12 distinct components—including the battery, display, and USB-C port—using only a single screwdriver. CEO Raymond van Eck emphasized that the device is built to be kept alive for years, a commitment backed by a five-year warranty and software support extending through 2033. Available in Forest Green, Horizon Black, and Cobalt Blue, the phone arrives with certified compatibility for T-Mobile and AT&T networks.
