The new tool records audio and video to generate summaries, extract action items, and draft follow-up emails. Beyond basic transcription, the company is developing an AI assistant dubbed Callie. This feature will leverage Calendly’s existing scheduling data to check availability and surface context from previous interactions. CEO Tope Awotona argues that while many tools excel at transcription, the true efficiency gains lie in automating the tasks that occur after the conversation concludes.
Market saturation remains a significant hurdle. Calendly faces pressure from specialized startups like Granola and Read AI, alongside established productivity suites such as Notion and ClickUp that have integrated similar features. To address growing privacy concerns surrounding automated recording, Calendly’s assistant will proactively notify participants before a meeting begins. The system also sends an in-chat alert during the call, allowing any attendee to dismiss the bot at will.
