Apple needs a budget Mac Neo to bridge the gap

The success of the MacBook Neo proves that Apple can deliver capable performance using an iPhone-based chipset for $699, inclusive of a display, keyboard, and battery. A desktop equivalent—stripped of these components and housed in a chassis similar to the Apple TV 4K—should theoretically undercut that price significantly. By leveraging existing smartphone silicon, Apple could produce a fanless, compact machine that occupies the sub-$500 market.

While current M-series chips offer impressive power, they have created a vacuum in the entry-level space. Recent memory pricing trends have pushed costs upward across the entire lineup, yet the Neo concept demonstrates that lower-cost hardware remains a viable and high-quality path forward. Whether dubbed a Mac Neo or a Mac Nano, a simplified desktop would allow Apple to recapture the value-conscious buyers who are currently priced out of the modern Mac ecosystem.
