Maritime Sensor Startup Quartermaster Secures $140 Million Series B

The capital injection includes $100 million in equity from Insight Partners, Overmatch Ventures, and existing backer First Round Capital, alongside a $40 million debt facility provided by Stifel. CEO Neil Sobin stated the round was preempted by investors, reflecting a heightened sense of urgency as shipping companies and governments seek alternatives to the limitations of standard Automatic Identification System (AIS) tracking.

Quartermaster’s core product, the SmartMast, integrates cameras and radios into weather-hardened hardware that captures tens of gigabytes of data per vessel daily. By moving beyond simple location pings, the system provides granular insights into congestion, collision avoidance, and search-and-rescue operations across what the company describes as the planet's largest blind spot. Currently, over 650 vessels across 25 countries are equipped with the technology, with more than 800 units shipped to date. To meet this trajectory, the startup has doubled its manufacturing capacity, shifting focus toward fleet-wide deployments as it scales its AI-driven maritime data network.
