HSBC Launches Digital Training for Ultra-Wealthy Heirs

With trillions of dollars in global wealth poised to shift between generations, HSBC Private Bank is partnering with the MIT Sloan School of Management to launch the Future Family Leaders Digital Programme. The six-week course aims to equip heirs aged 23 to 30 with the governance skills required for succession.

The curriculum focuses on the complexities of family enterprise dynamics, covering essential topics such as owner mindset, maintaining family unity, and navigating difficult interpersonal conversations. By moving beyond simple financial management, the bank intends to prepare the next generation to lead family businesses before they formally inherit control. The first cohort is scheduled to begin the coursework on November 3, concluding their training on December 8.

This initiative arrives as financial institutions grapple with the scale of the impending transfer, estimated by Cerulli Associates to reach $124 trillion by 2048. Data from BNY suggests that over half of ultra-high net worth individuals lack comprehensive succession plans, creating a significant market for structured educational support. HSBC CEO Ida Liu noted that clients are increasingly prioritizing hands-on experience for their children to ensure stability during transitions. The bank is complementing this digital effort with regional in-person forums, following a successful flagship event held in Athens earlier this year.
