This latest roadblock follows similar resistance elsewhere. Meta and YouTube initially blocked trailer advertisements before eventually reversing course, with Meta attributing its initial rejection to an internal error. X, the social media platform owned by Musk himself, has maintained a strict refusal to host any promotional material for the production.
Industry observers have pointed to the complex web of ownership and influence surrounding the project. TikTok’s U.S. operations include an investment from Larry Ellison, a prominent supporter of Donald Trump and a close associate of Musk. The film, which debuted in a limited run of four theaters, is scheduled for a broader release before arriving on HBO next year—a network currently under the leadership of David Ellison, Larry’s son.
