The new suite introduces Sketch Studio, a workspace specifically engineered to streamline the path from freehand drawing to vector graphics. It includes automated masking features and tools that convert rough sketches into precise geometric shapes. Beyond basic drawing, the software leverages the full technical capabilities of the Apple Pencil Pro, including barrel roll, squeeze, tilt, and hover gestures, providing granular control over digital brushes and tool shortcuts.
Neil Ladkin, head of product design at Affinity, stated that the development process was driven by creators who work exclusively on tablets. He noted the design prioritizes ergonomic workflow, such as canvas rotation and tool placement, to mirror the habits of professional illustrators. All projects created within the app are saved in the universal .af format, ensuring seamless compatibility across the entire Affinity ecosystem.
