The Vistra Fund Solutions Private Equity Report 2026, which surveyed 455 professionals across North America, Europe, APAC, and the Middle East, reveals that internal resource constraints have become a primary obstacle to successful exits. While firms like Blackstone and KKR expand into private wealth markets, the underlying infrastructure often fails to keep pace. Specifically, 45% of respondents cite valuation and reporting hurdles as major inhibitors, while 42% struggle to meet heightened regulatory and compliance demands.
Firms are increasingly diversifying their exit strategies, balancing continuation vehicles, sponsor-to-sponsor sales, and extended holding periods simultaneously. This shift exposes significant gaps: although 84% of firms claim to be prepared for retail and semi-liquid products, only 27% possess the necessary integrated infrastructure. Consequently, investor pressure for granular, real-time data access is mounting, with 93% of respondents acknowledging that operational excellence is now a prerequisite for maintaining investor confidence.
To bridge the gap, capital allocation is shifting away from headcount toward technology. Current budgets, which are 60% people-heavy, are projected to pivot toward a 32% technology weighting within three years. Despite near-universal interest in AI, 99% of firms report a disconnect between their technological ambitions and the reality of their current manual workflows. As a result, firms are increasingly turning to external providers, with 28% planning to outsource technology integration and 26% shifting investor services to third-party specialists.
