Google Assistant to sunset on mobile devices this September

The transition will not be instantaneous, as the company expects the rollout to span several weeks. Once the update hits a device, users will lose the ability to toggle back to the previous interface. While mobile hardware is the primary target, the scope includes wearables and most vehicles running Android Auto. However, cars utilizing Google built-in systems remain unaffected for the time being, and dedicated home hardware like Google Home and Google TV will retain the existing Assistant functionality.

This shift accelerates a timeline that was originally projected for 2025. By moving the deadline to this year, Google signals a definitive push toward centralizing its AI strategy around Gemini. Users meeting device requirements in supported regions will find their voice-controlled ecosystem fundamentally altered as the company clears space for its generative AI platform, relegating the familiar Assistant to the Google Graveyard.
