Rabbit pivots to software as R1 production ends

The OS3 system acts as an orchestrator, automatically selecting the necessary files, applications, and AI models required to complete specific tasks. Users can link up to five devices to a single account, accessing the agent through a dedicated desktop site or messaging platforms like Telegram and iMessage. While the company is officially ceasing production of the R1, founder Jesse Lyu confirmed that internal development remains focused on a new “cyberdeck” hardware project, expected to launch within months.

Privacy remains a point of contention for the transition. Although Rabbit asserts that it does not store, copy, or sell user data, the company acknowledged that chat logs and generated memories will persist on its servers. Furthermore, any third-party AI models connected to the OS3 environment will operate under their own independent privacy frameworks, shifting data responsibility away from the startup and onto the integrated providers.
