Platner Escalates Attack on Collins Over Reproductive Rights Record

Democratic challenger Graham Platner is targeting Republican Senator Susan Collins for her absence from key reproductive healthcare hearings, marking a sharp escalation in his Maine campaign. The criticism follows revelations that the five-term senator has consistently skipped Senate committee meetings focused on abortion since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

Platner Escalates Attack on Collins Over Reproductive Rights Record

Reporting from the Maine-based outlet Beacon reveals that Collins has failed to attend a single Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee session specifically dedicated to abortion or reproductive healthcare since the 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization ruling. Records indicate that between 2021 and March 2026, Collins missed 67 of 125 possible committee and subcommittee hearings, effectively avoiding half of her panel responsibilities.

Platner, a combat veteran and oyster farmer, argues these absences demonstrate a pattern of avoiding accountability for her 2018 vote to confirm Justice Brett Kavanaugh. "In the years since Roe was overturned, Susan Collins has done everything she can to skirt responsibility," Platner stated. He asserts that while the senator maintains a stance of symbolic opposition to Donald Trump, her legislative record continues to enable the conservative agenda that stripped federal protections for reproductive rights.
